Birthdays Are Yummy

At our house being the birthday boy or girl comes with the privilage of choosing meals for the day.  Derek had one yummy birthday.
Waffles with peanut butter and syrup of course.
Ribs for lunch.  This was my first time cooking ribs.  He seemed pleased.

His best bud seemed to like them also.

This plate was overflowing when we started.

Marble cake is always his choice.

YUMMY!
We ended with Pizza Hut pizza, candy and hot chocolate at the races.  What a day!  Happy Birthday my little man.

Kindle Ups and Downs

A few of you asked me to let you know how I like the Kindle so here goes.  I have had my Kindle for a month and enjoy reading it.  The best qualities of the Kindle is I always have access to a book.  It is easy to read.  Books are cheap or free!  I have purchased some kindle books which have been short and educational.  I never loose my spot.  It fits in my purse (I carry a big purse).  The screen is easy to read.

The things I do not like best about my kindle are: reading books I want to reference frequently.  I would rather have a book that I can highlight and tag pages to flip through easily.  The kindle has these capabilities and if you are more techy than me this may not bother you.  I have downloaded a magazine on the kindle.  The articles were easy to read (no go to page 117) but part of the charm of magazines for me is the photos.  I don't think I will be subscribing through the kindle.

Overall I am very pleased with my Kindle even though I won't be exclusive to ebooks.  If you have one how do you like it?

Feeling Crafty

I am not normally a crafty person.  But I felt the need to create.  I went to Hobby Lobby and came back with stuff to make this wreath.  Doesn't it feel like Spring?
I also made this bracelet because I love the beach.  I bought some beads but cannot figure out how to attach them.  Help anyone?

Thanks to all my crafty, bloggy friends for inspiring me.  Hobby Lobby and I may become great friends.

Do You Care For the Unborn?

In our local newspaper a letter to the editor broke my heart.  A grandmother (who apparently is raising her grandaughter) wrote of her heartbreak when the church turned them away due to her sixteen year old grandaughter's pregnancy.  The grandmother was the pianist and her grandaughter was excused from the teen class when she became pregnant.  The church also refused to give her a baby shower on church property.  They said they would give her a "sinners" shower off property.  I believe this to be true because I have been a member of a church with similar reactions.

This is wrong on so many levels.  First being if we truly believe as Christians that God is waiting for us with open arms no matter our sin then we need to SHOW HIS LOVE TO OTHERS.  Second, how can Christian say they are pro-life and ignore the needs of this unborn child.  This sixteen year old girl can go to any abortion clinic or planned parenthood and receive more compassion than her church family has given her.

When will Christians wake up and realize that we are not here to enforce rules!  Even Jesus did not cast out sinners.  Woe to ALL of us if He had.

SURPRISE

I woke up at 4:30 this morning and SURPRISE!  It snowed last night.

The weather was supposed to go south of us and just give a dusting.  I wonder if this guy was as surprised as I was.
It looks like it is going to snow all day.  We have 4 inches right now and the large flakes are falling steadily.  I love to watch the snow.  Stay warm my friends.

Flu Season

Flu season is upon us.  Here are some great tips for keeping well this winter.  Eat plenty of fresh fruits, veggies, garlic and stay away from refined sugar.  Vitamin C is a must!  My favorite homeopathic remedy is oscillococcinum.  It will make a difference.  The quicker you take it the better it works.

If your thoat is sore the bestest remedy is Throat Coat tea or pastilles.  It is an aquired taste.  I take it even though I don't like the taste because it works so quickly.  If you can't handle it a spoonfull of honey is tasty and healing.

There are many immune builder formulas at your local health food store and they are good.  Most will contain echinacea or elderberry.  Keep your stress low, exercise and catch some sun when you can.  All these things keep your body healthy.

Last Pinewood Derby

This was my little man's last Pinewood Derby.
Here is this years design.  As you can see he weighed in at 4.97 oz.  The most you can weigh is 5 oz.

My men.

Dad and Brittany cheering on the boys.

Derek waiting to see the result of his race.  Jenelle's face says it all.
This is the last race.  Derek's car is on the left.  The final race had to be run a few times before a winner was selected.  The cars were so close!  Derek was declared the winner. Woo Hoo!!
